Mentor

Welcome to Girls of Virtue: Give me a Chance! Mentoring Program, and thank you for your interest in enriching the lives of the girls in your community!

As we gather as a group, we often fail to create a strong bond between the staff and the girls. Some are quiet; others are shy, while a few may feel they simply do not fit in. The purpose of the Give me a Chance! Mentoring Program is to give every girl a chance to benefit from all the tools and opportunities Girls of Virtue has to offer. Everything we, and our volunteer mentors, do is aimed at helping youth discover their purpose in life. We believe that by providing young girls with caring, positive role models and the right environment, we can do just that.

A mentor is a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.

There are several characteristics that every great mentor should have:

  • Wisdom & loyalty
  • Teaching and/or coaching abilities
  • Supportive
  • Patient
  • Respected & respectful
  • People-oriented
  • Excellent motivator
  • Achiever

In addition to these characteristics, mentors must meet certain qualifications such as:

  • Loyal spirit
  • Trustworthiness
  • Responsible attitude
  • Honesty
  • No history of physical or mental endangerment to a child

Each mentor is expected to meet the following guidelines:

  • 1-year commitment
  • 10 hours of service a month
  • Weekly verbal contact
  • Attend extracurricular activities
  • Select a project to work on with mentee. This is how each mentor’s relationship will be monitored and evaluated.

How do you become a mentor? All you have to do is follow the indicated steps:

  • Complete a general volunteer application
  • Complete the mentor pre-screening application (maybe a link or attachment)
  • Upon receipt of phone invitation, attend a mentor training session
  • Complete a questionnaire and be matched with a potential mentee
